Know Me
Sandy Clafford is a New York City–based visual artist, best known by the pseudonym “The Queen’s Artillery.” Working primarily in paint and incorporating mixed materials as adornment, her practice embraces gaudy, colorful, and whimsical visual language. The act of embellishment is central to her process—functioning as a ritual that builds texture, depth, and shine within each piece.
Clafford’s work explores themes of autonomy, agency, identity, and representation. She is a self-taught artist with a technical background in Communication Design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York City College of Technology.
In 2025, she exhibited at Equity Gallery in New York as part of the Haint Blue exhibition, and at Tanya Weddemire Gallery in Brooklyn for Buy Art Within Reach. In 2023, Clafford presented her first solo exhibition at Established Gallery in Brooklyn and completed a residency with ArtCrawl Harlem on Governors Island. She has also collaborated with Grey Goose, designing a lapel piece in her signature style from her WTMD series.
Her previous body of work, A Mother’s Prayer, offered an introspective exploration of vulnerability and the intimacy of self. Building on that foundation, her current work is snowballing into examining intimacy within relationships. Through surrealism and layered symbolism, Clafford continues to investigate personal narrative and cultural identity.
